Nancy DeBasio, PhD, RN, FAAN

Dr. Nancy DeBasio holds a BSN from Wagner College; an MA in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing from New York University and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in Educational Leadership. Dr. DeBasio has worked in higher education for more than 40 years holding both faculty and administrative positions. She is President Emerita of Research College of Nursing after retiring in June 2017. Dr. DeBasio served two two-year terms as a member at large on the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Board of Directors. In addition, Dr. DeBasio has served as a team chair for the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) since 2003. She is currently serving as a member of the CCNE Standards Review Committee and the Substantive Change Review Committee. Dr. DeBasio is also engaged in several community boards in the greater Kansas City area including The Research Foundation, the Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care Association and the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) boards. Dr. DeBasio was selected as a member of the American Academy of Nursing’s Class of 2012 Fellows. She received the 2012 Advocate of the Year award from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing for her efforts to advance legislation related to nursing education, practice and research. In October 2013 she was awarded honorary membership in the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Dr. DeBasio was also the recipient of the Distinguished Graduate of Wagner College award in June 2014. In October 2016 the American Association of Colleges of Nursing presented her with the Sr. Bernadette Armiger award given for her contributions to nursing education. Dr. DeBasio was selected as one of the 2017 Icons of Education by Ingram’s, Kansas City’s Business Magazine. Dr. DeBasio is a member of her alma mater, Wagner College School of Nursing’s, Advisory Committee.
